Wedding Day Jewelry | Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Wedding Day Jewelry | Answers to FAQs

We are excited to share with you all about wedding day jewelry and some answers to frequently answered questions (FAQs). Megan with Lou’s Jewelry, a jeweler local to Mobile, Alabama, shared some fantastic advice in a group for wedding planning. Who better than a professional jeweler for tips on shopping, types of jewels, and maintenance on your wedding jewelry. We love sharing information with our Goodie and Smith couples! As wedding photographers, we’ve seen a lot of great jewelry and we are so excited to share this education from an expert in the field. So, we’re sharing answers to FAQs about your wedding day jewelry and a few tips we’ve learned too!

FAQs

Megan writes,
Question: How soon should I pick out our wedding bands?
Answer: I recommend that you and your soon-to-be spouse select and order your bands at least THREE months prior to your wedding date.
Question: Should I get my wedding day jewelry looked at if the pieces are being borrowed from a loved one?
Answer: ABSOLUTELY! As soon as you have your wedding day jewelry picked out, you should have it cleaned and inspected. Take pearls for example. Did you know that most pearl necklaces have been worn and never restrung? Let us help you avoid a dance floor disaster by inspecting any and all jewelry for your big day. You also may notice a lingering smell from Aunt Myrtle’s perfume on the jewelry. While you might love Aunt Myrtle with all your heart, you may have never warmed up to her perfume. We can help with that too by professionally cleaning the jewelry which will remove any accumulated grime and smells.
Question: How often should I have my engagement ring and wedding band cleaned and checked?
Answer: We recommend that you have your wedding set cleaned and checked every 3-4 months. At Lou’s Jewelry, we offer free jewelry cleaning. We would also love to see you the week of your wedding so that we can clean your ring and inspect it to ensure that it is in tip-top shape for the “big day”. Also, this gives us time to hear all about your wedding day and honeymoons plans!
Question: How do I keep my jewelry sparkling clean at home?
Answer: We are so glad you asked! If you would like a quality jewelry cleaner, we highly recommend a product called “Lavish”. We offer Lavish to our customers in-store. You can choose between the cleaning pen or the foam cleaner. Both are on sale right now for $14.99 + tax!”

Advice from the Photographers

We LOVE that Megan mentions wedding day jewelry that’s being borrowed from a family member or loved one. We always begin our day photographing the details that include your beautiful diamond and the wedding bands, but ALSO – heirloom jewelry. Your jewelry will be photographed close up with our macro lens and we want to show it off! Don’t forget all three rings (including the engagement ring, bride’s band(s) and groom’s band), earrings, necklaces and bracelets. While most brides remember to have their rings cleaned, it’s a fantastic idea to service ALL your wedding day jewelry.

Speaking of heirloom pieces, we highly encourage our couples to incorporate heirlooms into their wedding day accessories and details. The wedding is the beginning of your lives together and the beginning of your family story. How special to include pieces gifted or even borrowed. Heirlooms in addition to your new jewelry add a beautiful aesthetic of classic and modern that we love.

We take the time to photograph every detail of the day and each piece of jewelry has been specially selected for one of the most important days of our couples lives together! We also photograph the engagement ring during engagement sessions. Don’t forget to have your ring cleaned and sized in preparation of your engagement session too!
