Wedding Cake Style Inspiration

One of our favorite parts of any wedding day or styled shoot? Definitely the wedding cake!! Over the last few years photographing beautiful Alabama wedding days, we’ve seen some seriously amazing cakes. We thought it might be fun to share about some of our favorite local bakers and wedding cake styles today on the blog! Warning… you may wind up hungry after seeing this beauties. But, it’ll totally be worth it!

Drip Cakes

This fun, whimsical style for a wedding cake allows couples to add a pop of flavor to their desserts, without taking away from other decorations. We love that the drip can also bring some fun colors to a wedding cake! For our styled shoot at Izenstone, the incredible Cakes by Cecelia created an elegant drip cake with gold coloring. It was the perfect combination of elegant, whimsical, and modern influence.

Garden Inspired

Sometimes, you just want an over-the-top wedding cake! And that’s exactly what we got by Our Treats Design during our New Orleans inspired styled shoot at Marche. Working with your baker to create a custom, one-of-a-kind cake for your wedding day can be a great way to bring your personalities to your dessert table!

Traditional Tiered

Not sure you want something super dramatic on your wedding cake? Why not stick with a classic, traditional tiered cake and then find an elegant decoration to add on! One of our favorite wedding cakes was at Cady and Andrew’s wedding. They had a gorgeous white tiered cake with pink and purple flowers cascading down the side. Obviously, incredible work by Sugar House Fairhope!!

Boho Inspired

Emerald Coast Custom Cakes is incredible! For our Blakely State Park elopement styled shoot, we wanted something that really screamed boho! With a layer that mimiced macrame and some bright floral accents, this cake was whimsical and ideal for a boho bride. Bring the details of your wedding day into your dessert table! Little nods to your designs can speak volumes on your wedding cake. For example, you could use lace details from your gown or the flowers in your bouquet!

Elegant and Southern

Sometimes simple really is best. There’s something to be said about an elegant, short, two-tiered wedding cake with simple floral details. We absolutely loved the cake that The Cocoa Bean Bakery made for our White Magnolia styled shoot. It was really just simple and understated –  and everyone LOVED it!! Mix up the flavors in your tiers and you’ve got a great wedding cake on your hands!

Like your wedding day, your wedding cake style is all about YOU and what you want! So, find flavors you love and work with your baker to determine how much cake you need. Then you’ll be on your way to building a design you love. No matter what, your cake will be incredible – and the perfect way to end your wedding day!
