Tips for the Mother of the Bride on a Wedding Day

Weddings are a special affair. They’re a day all about love and family and one of the few times both sides of a new family are together. As wedding photographers, we’ve seen so many incredible ways our couples include their parents on their wedding day. But there’s often one relationship that gets glossed over: the mother of the bride and her daughter. Today, we want to share a few ways that mothers of the bride can be there for their daughters on a wedding day!

Help her get ready!

One of the biggest ways  that mothers of the bride can be involved on a wedding day happen in the morning. Spend time with your daughter and help her prepare. From helping with her wedding gown to adjusting shoes or jewelry, these little moments will come to mean so much years from now. Some of our favorite photos on a wedding day are often these quiet ones between a mother and her daughter.

Share your bridal heirlooms!

You know we’re all about fun traditions! One we love is a bride wearing her mother’s (or grandmother’s) veil or including pieces in her gown. There’s something SO special about knowing that you’re passing something important down to your little girl. These traditions can also be carried on long after you or your daughter are married.

Walk her down the aisle!

We know this one is a bit off from tradition, but hear us out. It’s so sweet when both parents give away their daughter. If you don’t want to walk down the aisle, consider meeting them at the end and being there when she’s given away. It’s just as special that way!

Being the mother of the bride is SUCH an important role. But we know it’s easy to feel overlooked. Take some quiet time with your daughter on her wedding day and remember that you are loved by her (and her new family!). Enjoy this special time in your family’s life and focus on the day ahead of you!
