Getting your engagement photos taken can be intimidating for people, we get it, but, your engagement session is all about celebrating you two, your relationship, and taking a little break from wedding planning to do something fun. These portraits capture such a special time in your lives! We want our couples to feel relaxed and at ease during our session so that we can have fun and get to know each other before the big day. To help with that, below are a list of a few tips to help make your engagement session amazing!
Pick a location that matters to you!
If possible, let’s choose a location that means something to you both. Maybe it’s where you got engaged or had your first date. Maybe it’ll be your favorite restaurant or park. Whatever it is, let’s chat about some local spots that make sense for your session. We love hearing about some of the ideas our couples have for locations for their engagement session!
Be on time.
It seems really obvious, right? But, a lot of clients don’t realize that we operate and shoot with natural light. As it gets later, light fades faster. So if we don’t start on time, we won’t always get the chance to do every location or outfit you’ve prepared. Life happens, but we all need to do our best to show up on time so we can have the best experience possible during your engagement session! Stay in touch with us if something happens!
Prep your guy!
It’s no secret guys aren’t always on board with sessions. So, take some time to prep your guy! We recommend sitting down with him and showing him a few previous engagement sessions so he knows what to expect. Let him know that there will be a few more shots than just the traditional holding your hand to the camera! We’re always pleasantly surprised by how many grooms tell us they had a great time.
Make a date out of it.
Plan a dinner after your engagement session and enjoy the night together! Your session should be relaxing and fun, so take the time to be together. Try not to plan too much earlier in the day so that you can actually have time to get ready beforehand, too. There’s nothing as sad as a couple rushing to the session and not being able to enjoy it!
Engagement sessions are supposed to be fun for everyone. They’re also a chance for us to get to know each other. So if you’re nervous and tense, we won’t be doing either! We strive to make our Goodie and Smith couples feel cozy and happy during their session, so we encourage you to take the time to really prepare for the engagement portraits so you know what’s going on! No matter what, we’ll have a great time and capture some beautiful portraits to celebrate your engagement!
